Register With the FAA: A Step-By-Step Guide
The first step is to go to the registration page on the FAA website (https://registermyuas.faa.gov/restricted#/home) and create an account.
After logging in, begin the registration process.
The first screen will ask if the aircraft is solely for recreation/hobby (model aircraft) or for commercial, government or other non-hobby use (non-model aircraft).
- If you are a student flying for hobby, a class, or senior thesis work, then select “Model Aircraft.”
- For other uses, select “Non-Model Aircraft.”
Next provide profile information. Non-model aircraft should list the Trustees of Princeton University as the corporation and provide the mailing address listed below.
The next step is to add the information about the specific UAS, including the manufacturer, model, and serial number.
Finally, proceed to the shopping cart and checkout to pay the $5 registration fee.
On the page of the registered inventory, the registration # link takes you to a registration certificate which you should download and keep with you when operating the UAS. The certificate and a receipt will be sent to the email address provided during login.
Send Karla Ewalt (email@example.com) a copy of the registration card, so that Princeton can maintain an accurate database of registered vehicles.
Congratulations! You are done.
